About the Gallery

Established in 1975, Galerie Bel’Art soon emerged as one of the major galleries for modern art in Sweden. The Gallery opened on April 24th 1975 with a retrospective of paintings by Victor Vasarely and during the years the owner Kent Belenius has built a close personal relationship with artists like Max Ernst, Dorothea Tanning, Roberto Matta, Henry Moore, Max Bill, Victor Vasarely, Antonio Saura, Conroy Maddox, Mimmo Paladino, Ivan Tovar and also major Scandinavian artists like Robert Jacobsen, Richard Mortensen, C O Hultén, C F Reuterswärd, Eddie Figge, Rune Jansson, Lennart Rodhe, Endre Nemes, Lars-Gunnar Nordström, Karl Axel Pehrson, Eric H Olson, Kjartan Slettemark, K G Nilson, Sten Eklund, Carl Johan De Geer, Marianne Lindberg De Geer, Ulf Rahmberg, Lars Ramstedt,, Arne Frifarare and Roger Risberg.

Through the years the Gallery exhibited these artists at numerous occasions and also showed works by artists like Picasso, Duchamp, Miró, Léger, Masson, Asger Jorn, Gösta Adrian-Nilsson(GAN), Otto G Carlsund, Öyvind Fahlström and Olle Baertling.

The Gallery also rediscovered and exhibited important artists that for various reasons have been "forgotten", like Vilhelm Bjerke-Petersen, Randi Fisher, Bengt Orup, Lambert Werner, John Ivar Berg, Bertil Öhlund and Harry Booström.

Working directly with artists, artists' estates, colleagues and private collectors, the Gallery has made and organized important exhibitions, books, prints and catalogues. The Gallery also has assisted in forming private, public and corporate collections as well as, showing works in other exhibitions and public museums.

A recent addition originating in 2004 is the decision of working directly with contemporary artists. This activity is run by Niklas Belenius, who has the vision to build a strong personal tie to the selected artists, and to introduce emerging quality art for the new generation of collectors and museums. In November 2006 Niklas Belenius opened up his own gallery, GALLERY NIKLAS BELENIUS.
