Greta Knutson
BIOGRAPHY
1899 Greta Knutson was born on November 10th outside Stockholm, Sweden.
1918-20 Finished the painting school of Carl Wilhelmson in Stockholm, Sweden.
1919-20 Visited the Art Academy in Stockholm, Sweden.
1921 Traveled to Paris and became a student with André Lhote.
1924 She met the Rumanian born poet Tristan Tzara. Through him she began to frequent the surrealist circuit in Paris and met among others Max Ernst, Miró, Tanguy and Picasso.
1925-38 She were married to Tristan Tzara.
1926 She exhibited together with “Optimisterna” at Liljevalch Art Hall in Stockholm, Sweden.
1927 The son Christophe was born.
1928 Exhibited in Gothenburg, Sweden with the “Optimisterna”
1929 Exhibited during this year at “Salon des Surindépendants”.
1930 Participated at Otto G. Carlsund’s exhibition at the Stockholm Exhibition – “Art Concret”
1927 The first separate exhibition took place at Galerie Zborowski, in Paris.
1931 Separate exhibition – Galerie Percier, in Paris.
1932 The first separate exhibition in Stockholm, Sweden at Gallery Moderne.
1934 Exhibited together with Hugo Zuhr at the Art hall in Gothenburg and had a
separate exhibition at the Svensk-Franska Konstgalleriet in Stockholm.
1937 Separate exhibition at the Gallery Moderne in Stockholm.
1940-45 Lived in Aix en Provence and was active in the resistance movement.
1946 Separate exhibition at the Swedish-French Art Gallery in Stockholm.
1947 Collective exhibition in Gothenburg: “Peinture de L’Ecole de Paris”.
1948 Participated in an official collective exhibition in Oslo, Norway, “Svensk nutidskonst”. Group exhibition at Svensk-Franska Konstgalleriet.
1949 Participated as an art critic in “L’Emp’edocle” under the supervision of Albert Camus
1950 Separate exhibition at the Museum in Gävle, Sweden and at Galerie de Berri, in Paris, France. Group exhibition at Svensk-Franska Konstgalleriet in Stockholm.
1951-68 Spent most of her time at her house in Gordes in the south of France.
1954 Separate exhibition at the Galerie de Berri in Paris, France and at
Svensk-Franska Konstgalleriet in Stockholm..
The City of Paris bought a painting at the exhibition in Paris.
1957 Participated in an exhibition called “Nordisk Konst” at the art museum in Gothenburg.
1964 Participated in the exhibition “Svensk nutidskonst”, at Musée Galliera, in Paris, France.
1977 Separate exhibition at Gallery Heland in Stockholm, Sweden.
1980 Retrospective exhibition at the Centre Culturel Suédois in Paris. Solo exhibition at Thielska Galleriet in Stockholm, Sweden. “Bestien” was released in Berlin, Germany.
1983 Died in Paris, France.
1985 “Lunaires” was released in the series “L’Age d’or”, edition Flammarion in Paris, France.
1991 Solo exhibition in Stockholm, Sweden, Galerie Bel’Art.
